Two years after creating the soundtrack for “Your Name” (now the highest-grossing Japanese anime in history), RADWIMPS are set to release their next album, “Anti Anti Generation” on December 12th. Hailed as the best alt-rock group in Japan- an accolade that has my full endorsement- the trio’s versatility is yet again on display with their new single, “Sokkenai”. A love song in every sense of the word, “Sokkenai” is a tale of blossoming young love and the ambiguity and uncertainty that often comes with it (English lyrics can be found here). Yojiro Noda’s vocal melody is infectious, the piano is poignant and delicate, and the sweetly simple guitar solo really ties the whole thing together into an unmistakable rock ballad. Aiming to match the simplicity and warmth of the song, the official music video is the perfect accompaniment, featuring a young couple in an ambiguous relationship lying on the floor as dawn approaches. Give it a listen and a watch, and let RADWIMPS be the soundtrack to your Thursday.

Formed in 2001 and made the major debut from EMI in Nov. 2005, RADWIMPS have become known internationally for their wide sound palette, charismatic live show and wild rock. In 2015, their 10th anniversary year, the band headed out on a much waited for international run smashing their first EU tour and their 2nd Asian tour. They completed the year with a headlining show at Makuhari Messe in Japan playing to a crowd of over 30,000. These shows led to their first documentary film, which captured the band throughout these tours and was shown in theaters across Japan in early 2016. Also in 2016, the band scored an anime film “Your Name.” which became a record breaking blockbuster hit around the world pushing the band to the next level.
Hot off the hit of OST, RADWIMPS released their highly anticipated new album, Human Bloom which featured RADWIMPS’ signature genre bending style, mixing elements of modern rock with the feel of jazz and hip hop, creating an album in a genre all their own. The band concluded their Asia Tour with huge success in the fall, 2017, including their first overseas arena show at Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai. With further demand from the fans who witnessed their amazing shows, the band re-visited Asia on another extensive tour in summer, 2018.
