With competition-worthy songwriting, a mature and resonant voice, and an overall confidence that is beyond her years, Australian teen Nancie Schipper is delivering home-run indie rock in her new single “When You Get Home.” Bathed in feel-good 90s century nostalgia, this song plays like a sunset drive with the ones you hold close- or maybe like a credit roll, if you’re of the Hollywood mindset. Schippier’s songwriting is diverse- covering themes of love that expand well beyond simply romance- and her vocal performance is evocative and shows a lot of maturity. Hell, after a blind listen you may overestimate her age by a year or ten. The instrumental production is a soup-to-nuts feel-good throwback, full of nostalgic guitars and drum beats that are as jovial as they are timeless. We’ll definitely be waiting with great impatience to see what comes next from this young artist.
