If you consider yourself proficient in Hot Lunch Music lore, then you’ll know that we were particularly fond of Golden Love Child’s sunny indie track “Golden Brown.” We even wrote a blog post on it and featured it in our February playlist. Well MLC has responded with an acoustic rendition of “Golden Brown,” and it’s completely won us over again. Having stripped back the glimmering sun-soaked energy of the original, this version’s simple fingerpicked guitar allows the lyrics and vocal performance to really shine through. What was originally a slice of west-coast indie rock is now a sweet and reflective ballad about longing for a love left back East. MLC has truly managed to make “Golden Brown” a new experience, and I’m glad I get to have it again.
