Smokey Brights “Home” drew me in first with it’s delightful mid-tempo pacing and intimate vivid lyrical imagery. “Sometimes you chase a rainbow into the cold” is a line that really stuck with me. Before reading about the song I knew from the nostalgic and melancholy in the performance this was born from something deeper, in the press release the songwriter Ryan Devlin “recounts a move to a new city, the dread of arriving at a new school, the love and chaos of a full house, and the custody exchange ceremony familiar to children of divorce”. “Home” instantly reminded me of my own upbringing on a pond in New Hampshire, skipping rocks and doing other similar things. I guess this song is great because the production allows for it to be non-invasively played in the background but if you want to dive in deeper there is a lot more waiting for you should you choose to pay attention. This one was a bit of a tearjerker for me…
