“Baby Water Blue” is mlady’s ode to the steady thrum under the surface—natural water, restless minds, and the kind of late-night buzz that doesn’t quit without a little help from a foil-wrapped pill. Pounding organic drums that have a huge sound accompany a sonically deep set of guitars and soft brooding and melancholic vocal performance, flowing through soft verses into a big, washed-out chorus that feels equal parts shoegaze and soul-searching.
The lyrics hover in that in-between space: not quite home, not quite lost. Just drifting—like water does.
