The Criticals “Mother of Style” is from a Nashville based indie rock trio that sounds like they could be from the Lower East Side of Manhattan. “Mother of Style” showcases pop-rock sensibility with beautiful bass grooves, hip guitar tones and a monotone talk-ish rock-ish vocal track that still has a beautiful melody and some wild falsettos that showcase how talented the vocalist actually is. I have trouble shaking the Strokes influence on a track like this but god damn it is so well produced. Also love this bands commitment to making music video content.
Our beloved mother of style, Nashville, has gone through many facelifts and small deaths since we first started playing music. From mold covered basements and backyards in 30 degree weather to Kimbro’s Cafe to Exit/In and Basement East, the last half decade and all the city’s changes have been nothing short of bittersweet and exciting. Caught in the eye of a nostalgia wave we had been riding for a few weeks while beginning writing the album, we so often thought of friends, bands, houses that everyone used to party in, and stories upon stories that we all shared for that short lived time in Nashville together. Mother of Style is yours now. #thecriticals#indierock#ontour#newmusic
