Meredith Lane’s “Wig Closet” / “Gas Station Baby” double feature

“Peanuts, cracker jacks, get ’em hot get ’em cold I’m trynna get ’em sold” Bahahaha what a sick intro snippet choice. “Wig Closet” explodes into an indie rock track with dark descending harmony that is regularly diatonic except for that odd chord. Drop D bouncy rock and roll that’s good for road trips.

ARTIST QUOTE

“Wig Closet, with its alt-rock guitars and fun drum lines will make it hard not to bang your head. This is the story of love lost, and how that can change a person. Meredith wrote this song to describe the things we loose in our transition from child to adult.”

“Gas Station Baby” has more than a touch more country to it than “Wig Closet” and given it’s off a record called Greyhound it makes sense to have tracks with this much lap steel. This was clearly recorded well, the tones of the drums and guitars and the way the mix is balanced so well is a testament to making the record the right way will have an impact on the listener’s experience. I’d love to hear “Gas Station Baby” performed in a saloon.
