the world famous “Lipstick Trick” is my kind of alt-rock with simple but heavy guitar melodies and introspective yet bubbly lyrics. The energy is infectious and the vibe is positive with “Lipstick Trick”. The band compares themselves to familiar artists Weezer but I’d argue they’re somewhere closer to a combination Treble Chargers, Sure Sure, and Built to Spill just going off the edge and vocal timbre. This is a band that probably feels right at home playing Silver Lake and Burbank after I’m assuming playing spots like T.T. and the Bears, Middle East or Great Scott (if I’m not dating myself a little with my knowledge of Boston clubs). If you’re a fan of bright and happy rock music that still packs a punch you’re definitely in luck with this find.
from the press sheet;
“Los Angeles guitar champs the world famous are fighting pretty hard to stay in the light.
The band is, essentially, a Boston transplant; most band members, including singer/lyricist Will Harris, are originally from Massachusetts. Their sound feels at home enough in sunny California, calling back to bygone Weezer, but nonetheless feels thematically grounded in their native East Coast, often looking playfully askance at LA as it mines truth from the SoCal stereotypes we all know and love.”
I can relate to this because at one point I was a post Berklee grad living in Westwood and Tarzana before moving to NYC to get a day gig in the industry.
